Maluleka lauds Tefu’s generosity

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs attacking midfielder George Maluleka has saluted his skipper Tefu Mashamaite for his generous heart after the Bochum-born defender handed his Absa Player of the Season accolade to his defensive partner Mulomowandau Mathoho during the week.

Mashamaite was instrumental for the Amakhosi in the 2014/15 Absa Premiership campaign which earned him plenty of accolades at the PSL awards at the Sandton Convention Centre last Sunday.

“Masha” walked away with the 2014/15 Footballer of the Season, Absa Premiership Player’s Player of the Season and the Absa Premiership Defender of the Season, taking home a total of R450 000 in prize money.

After scoring plenty of accolades again at the Chiefs awards in Midrand on Wednesday, Mashamaite felt that he needed to share the success with his “Tower” as a symbol of his appreciation.

Maluleka told Sport24 in an exclusive interview on Thursday that the Tshiombo-born man-marker also deserved to be recognised for his hard work - which is why he praised “Masha” for his decision.

“It was so generous of Tefu (Mashamaite) to hand over one of his accolades to Tower,” said Maluleka.

“Tefu and Tower have been our pillar of strength at the back throughout the season.

“So with Tower ending up without any accolade in the PSL, Tefu felt it suitable to give one of his to him.

“Tower deserved it as well and I salute our captain for his generosity and mentality.

“I know it took a lot of courage from him to do what he did and not everybody could do that.”

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
