Maritzburg ready for MTN8 debut

Cape Town - Former Maritzburg United striker Fadlu Davids says that being in the MTN8 is a great achievement for the team.

Davids had previously played for Vasco Da Gama where he was twice the top goal scorer in the National First Division.

He has also been an assistant coach to Ernst Middendorp when the German was in charge at Maritzburg United and then at Bloemfontein Celtic.

“It’s definitely a great achievement for the team as a whole. The team is doing very well and is very strong for this season,” he told Sport24.

“It’s not about the players individually but the team as a whole. We are a family.”

While their is a lot of excitement at Harry Gwala Stadium ahead of the MTN8, Davids is fully aware of the challenge facing the Team of Choice when they take on Kaizer Chiefs in the tournament's first round on Wednesday night.

“Kaizer Chiefs will obviously be a challenge for us as they are the defending champions. We hope to go further and do our best,” said Davids.
