Marques leaves Birds' nest

Cape Town – Moroka Swallows head coach Zeca Marques has decided to end his relationship with the Dobsonville outfit after two seasons charge.

The Birds have been on a steady decline in the league since the 53-year-old took over from Gordon Igesund at the start of the 2012/13 campaign.

They narrowly escaped relegation last season and an improved performance was expected after they strengthened the side with new players, including three players from Europe.

However, after a promising start the wheels fell off and they have since lost their last four matches and were also eliminated from the Telkom Knockout.

Disgruntled fans staged a protest after their latest set-back against Mpumalanga Black Aces on Saturday when Clive Barker’s side defeated Sowetan side 3-2.

It was the second protest by the club’s supporters this season, with the first resulting in the club being charged by the Premier Soccer League.

Marques said in his post-match comments, "No decision has been made yet. So, I'm still the head coach of Swallows. I didn't submit any letter of resignation to anyone, and I don't intent to.”
