Pirates going for Wits jugular

Cape Town - Midfielder Daine Klate says Orlando Pirates will take nothing for granted when they meet Wits on Saturday in the second leg semi-final of the MTN8 at Orlando Stadium.

Second-half goals from Siyabonga Sangweni and Thabo Matlaba helped the Buccaneers to a 2-0 advantage at Bidvest Stadium on Sunday, putting the Soweto outfit firmly in control before the return leg over the weekend.

“It’s not job done yet. The focus has shifted to the Wits game. Any goal that we concede will probably bring back nerves,” Klate said in Johannesburg on Thursday.

“For now, the focus is to protect the lead that we have.”

Pirates have struggled to for consistency so far this season and remain winless in the league, after three games.

In the top eight cup, however, the Soweto giants have looked in solid form and have been the pace setters, beating SuperSport United in the previous round, before dispatching the Clever Boys away from home.

On Wednesday, Pirates again failed to win in the league, ending in a 1-1 draw with AmaZulu at Orlando Stadium.

“We’ve had three games and only two points in the league … we know about it,” Klate said.

“Each and every game we want to win.

“I’m sure with the players that we have and the coach that we have, we will bounce back from this.”

Teammate Thandani Ntshumayelo, meanwhile, dismissed talk of playing for a draw, in order simply to get through the game without losing their two goal advantage.

“We’re playing at home and it will be important for us to play our normal game.

“We’re going to try and score goals and I think it’s important to win at home.”
