Sangweni to stay at Bucs?

Johannesburg - A source close to the player has revealed that Orlando Pirates defender Siyabonga Sangweni is yet to pen a new deal with the club.

When contacted by Sport24 regarding the matter on Monday, Pirates’ Administration Manager Floyd Mbele declined to go into much detail about a possible new contract for the 31-year-old player.

Sangweni’s deal with Pirates elapsed at the end of last month but Mbele stated that the Bafana Bafana defender is still a Pirates player and he is still training with the club.

“Siyabonga Sangweni is still here at Pirates,” said Mbele.

“If I say he is here that means I am saying that he will be with us in the coming season again. You don’t have to ask me to reveal much on a player’s contract with the team. Just know that he is here at Pirates as we speak.”

Sangweni and captain Lucky Lekgwathi are still out of contract but the Happy People’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mickey Modisane confirmed to Sport24 last week that the 37-year-old is most likely to lead his team in the 2013/14 season.

Sangweni joined Pirates from Lamontville Golden Arrows back in July 2011.

It remains to be seen if Sangweni will stay with the Sea Robbers or not.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
