VV blames tired Pirates

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates head coach Vladimir Vermezovic believes his players were still tired from their weekend MTN8 victory celebrations heading into last night's draw against AmaZulu.

The Buccaneers and Usuthu played to a 1-1 draw in their Absa Premiership match at the Orlando Stadium.

Bongani Ndulula broke the deadlock in the first half for the KwaZulu-Natal based side before Thabo Matlaba levelled matters in the second half.

The Serbian international coach hinted that he won't blame his charges for yet another disappointing performance as they might have played the match "tired".

“First half we didn’t play well,” said Vermezovic.

“It was much better in the second half.

“Maybe our players are tired.

“There were too many celebrations from last week MTN8 win over Wits.

“But everyone has the right to have one bad day at the office in a while.

“Fortunately we didn’t lose the game today.

The draw meant that both sides are yet to record their first victory of the new season.

Pirates’ next match will be against Wits in the second leg of the R8m competition on Saturday.

The Buccaneers are in the driving seat heading into the game as they managed to keep a clean sheet and also grabbed two away goals in the first leg.

Kick-off is at 20:15.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
