Anderson battles to reach 3rd round

London - South Africa's Kevin Anderson, seeded 14th at the 2015 Wimbledon tournament, had to battle extreme heat to beat Turkey's number one player, Marsel Ilhan 6-7(5), 7-6(6), 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday.

Anderson had problems within the first few minutes of the match and battled to find his range, but after winning the second set, he let out a mighty roar to vent his frustration and he picked up the pace shortly afterwards.

Britain's Met Office national weather service said a temperature of 35.7°C was recorded at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew - its nearest station to the All England Club.

That topped the previous record of 34.6°C set nearly four decades ago in 1976.

In other second round games French Open winner Stanislas Wawrinka beat Victor Estrella (Dominican Republic) 6-3 6-4 7-5 9 and US Open champion Marin Cilic of Croatia beat Ricardas Berankis (Lithuania) 6-3 4-6 7-6(6) 4-6 7-5.
