Easter treats and surprises for the whole family


Whether you're travelling for the upcoming school holidays or just staying in your home city, here is a list of things to do in and around SA's major cities - with something to suit both young and old. 


CAPE TOWN

Table Mountain Easter Egg Hunt in the Clouds

Track the paw prints of the Easter Bunny when Table Mountain Cableway hosts a delicious Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday. The search for chocolaty treats on top of South Africa’s New 7 Wonder of Nature starts on the hour every hour. Additional attractions include fairies performing magical tricks and hosting puppet shows while you wait in line to ride the Cable Car.


Dates and times:

Easter Egg Hunt:
Sunday from 10:00 - 13:00 (happening every hour)

Additional attractions: 
The entire Easter weekend (3-6 April) from 10:00 to 12:00 (Lower Station) and from 12:00 to 14:00 (Top Station). 

Cost: Adults pay R225 return, children under 18 pay R110.




Ultimate Easter bunny hunt


Visitors can check out the Lindt Gold Bunny Magical Garden at the Col’Cacchio Court in Cavendish, Claremont as well as participate in the free hunts that will be taking place twice per hour as follows:

 Dates and times:


- Friday 27 March: 9am – 7pm

- Saturday 28 March: 9am – 7pm

- Sunday 29 March: 10am – 5pm

Noordhoek Easter Hunt

Noordhoek Farm Village will be hosting an egg hunt of note.  The kids are guaranteed heaps of fun as the Easter Bunny will be hiding eggs at the village and organizing 2 Easter Hunts. Parents can relax as the little ones enjoy the rest of the entertainment on offer, including face painting, balloon artists and Special Easter Crafts for kids. These will carry additional costs. Booking is advised for the Easter Egg hunts.

Easter at the Waterfront

The V&A Waterfront’s Amphitheatre has become a regular hotspot over the Easter weekend. The Easter Bunny will be on hand and the kids will also have the opportunity to get in touch with real fluffy beings at the Petting Zoo at the revamped Watershed, opposite the Two Oceans Aquarium.

Date and Time: Saturday, 4 April to Sunday, 12 April, from 10:00 to 17:00

Costs:  R20 for the petting zoo, available to kids of all ages

Peter Rabbit Parade at Artscape

The Beatrix Potter’s delightful story for children, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, will be at Artscape Theatre Foyer during the April Easter school holiday, presented by Stagecraft Drama Studio. Kids attending on Saturday, 4 April, are being advised to dress up as a rabbit and join the parade after the performance.

Dates and Times: Saturday, March 28 at 10:30. Also April 2, 4, 7, 9, 10, 11 at 10:30.

Cost: R70 per ticket.  Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more.

One&Only Easter egg hunt

The One&Only Cape Town afternoon tea is already well-known and loved but for Easter they will be pulling out all of the stops as each guest will be presented with a handmade Golden Easter Egg – one lucky guest will win a extra special One&Only Easter gift of chocolate-themed Chocolate Deluxe Pedi:Mani Duo from One&Only Spa.  There will also be an Easter Egg hunt, with eggs hidden throughout the resort for kids to enjoy.

Durbanville Hills - The Eatery

You can also find the Easter Bunny at Durbanville Hill’s The Eatery. The estate will be hosting plenty of fun-filled family activities, including an Egg hunt for the kids, face-painting, a jumping castle, live music, wine tastings, to rid them of their boundless energy.   Open from 10am - 4pm daily, booking is advised for breakfast and lunch.

Family fun at Boschendal Wine Estate

You’re spoiled for choice in the Cape, when it comes to Easter Egg hunts.  Boschendal Farm is inviting families to kick-off the Easter Weekend with its hunt on Friday, 3 April from 9:30am – 11:00. Kids will be treated to a themed-gift pack which will include games, sweets and other fun items to ensure the morning is an excellent success. Pre-booking is advised.

JOBURG

Treat the kids to the bear-necessities of life  


Take the kids down to The People’s Theatre and let them boogie down to the endearing favourite - The Jungle Book. They’ll be entertained by the magic of Disney's treatment of Rudyard Kipling's classic story, with wonderful song and dance being the essential ingredients for a memorable school holiday experience.

Heidi at The National Children's Theatre

Audiences will follow with delight Heidi’s adventures from the time she arrives in the Swiss Alps to live with her grandfather. Written in 1881, Heidi is a story of a little orphan girl who brings new hope to everyone her life touches.   Booking in advance is advised.

The Zulu Kingdom Easter Beach Festival at Montecasino

Picture a tropical beach playground complete with sunshine, sand, cocktails and Calypso music – except you don’t have to make the five-hour drive to experience it. Expect the best of kiddie’s beach fun, including treasure hunts, hoola hoop competitions, and sand castle-building and tug-o-war competitions. Parents are invited to experience a taste of the very best of the KZN Midlands in the Midlands Meander Picnic area, a brand new addition to the festival this year.

Ultimate Easter bunny hunt

As with the Cape Town event, visitors can check out the LINDT Gold Bunny Magical Garden in Joburg too, at the Junxion Court in the Fourways Mall.

Holiday Easter Chocolate Hunt at the Lido Hotel

The Lido hotel will be hosting Easter celebrations and those attending can enjoy loads of eats and treats on offer, including shwarma’s, pancakes, waffle on a stick, corndog, vetkoek, briyani, samosas’s.

Tutankhamun exhibition at the Silverstar Casino

Treat the kids to an exhibition that will unlock the cultural history of ancient Egypt. Featuring more than 1 000 perfect replicas produced under scientific supervision, it allows you to enter the 'tomb chamber, feeling like a mordern-day discoverer'.

DURBAN


Easter Egg Hunt at uShaka Marine World

Over 100 000 assorted eggs of Beacon chocolate, as well as Beacon marshmallow eggs (in the form of tokens) have been hidden in nooks and crannies across uShaka Marine World. Each child entering the park, will receive a goodie bag with a Easter treasure map featuring a number of exciting clues which draw attention to our many animals housed at the park - so not only will your kids be able to collect Easter eggs, but they will be able to see all the amazing creatures at the same time, allowing the whole family to enjoy the expedition.

Brookside Mall Easter Festival

There will be a special kids zone, which will play host to jumping castles, face painting, visits from Disney characters and train rides.

Michael Jackson History Show at the iZulu Theatre

Rock the Boat Camp Durban
