WATCH: Shocking candid footage reveals what hotel cleaners really get up to

Cape Town - Never thought it necessary to use the safe in your hotel room?

Well, candid footage of a hotel room cleaner rifling through luggage, trying to access electronics and investigating personal mail deliveries, may change your mind.

Watch the video here

Uploaded onto YouTube by user, Vince Stravix, earlier this month, the video has been making waves and has received more than 2 million views so far.

Fox News reports that Stravix had attached the camera to his laptop to secretly record what happened in the hotel room in his absence.

While the woman does not actually take any items, the fact that she freely fiddles with personal belongings kind of gives one the creeps.

In true YouTube style, users were quick to comment on the video, with a wide range of opinions - some enraged by the woman's behaviour, and others upset that Stravix put the woman's job in danger.

"Oh thank you for posting this video of a maid NOT stealing anything. Now she can lose her job and her means of financially supporting herself and her family," said NYC travis.

Another user, hellepi, seemed to agree with Travis, saying: "She clearly doesn't get paid enough. Raise your minimum wages, american corporations and maybe treat your employees with more respect. Thanks, the world."

On the other end of the spectrum, Marty D'Arcy said: "Why you may want to skip maid service in your hotel room. Be careful what you leave in your room!"

What are your thoughts about this? Have you ever experienced something similar? Or if you were in the cleaner's situation would you perhaps be equally curious? Tell us in the comment section below or send us your thoughts to info@traveller24.co.za
