Guy cashes in his frequent flyer miles for $19 000 of in-flight luxury

Cape Town - If you thought you knew what luxury air travel looked like - you know seats that fold back into beds and a glass of champagne on arrival - you ain't seen nothing yet!

Derek Low, a young entrepreneur, recently had the air travel experience of any jetsetter's wildest dreams when he cashed in his heaps of frequent flyer miles for a seat in Singapore Airlines' Suite Class.

Exclusively available on the airline's flagship Airbus A380, a ticket to Suite Class would ordinarily cost in the vicinity of US$19 000 (R214 291.50 at R11.28/dollar).

Travelling from Singapore to New York, Low documented his entire journey - from his pre-flight reception in the 'Private Room' at Changi Airport to his extremely cosy night's rest and all the amazing meals in between (and there were many! One thing's certain, this guy knows how to make the most of once-in-a-lifetime stuff!).

He shared his experience on medium.com and proceeded to make the entire internet very jealous. Thanks, Derek.

Well, you must be dying to know what one would get in return for $19 000.

Here are just a few of the incredible perks:

- Firstly, you get a private suite, which means you need actually not make any sort of contact with any of your disgusting fellow flyers.

- Inside your suite you will find a genuine leather arm chair, hand-stitched by Italian master craftsman Poltrona Frau.

- The most comfortable bed you have ever laid eyes on - complete with a plush mattress and everything - when Singapore Airlines flight attendants come to prepare your suite for sleep time. Which, by the way, can turn into a double bed if no one occupies the suite next to yours.

- Interiors designed by French luxury yacht designer Jean-Jacques Coste

- Bose earphones

- Salvatore Ferragamo amenity kit, which includes a full-sized bottle of cologne/perfume

- Givenchy linen, slippers and pyjamas

- Dom Perignon champagne, practically on tap

- Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee (which apparently 'costs a ton')

- Gourmet meals like:  Malossol Caviar with Lobster-Fennel Salad, Duck Foie Gras and Vanilla Bavarois with Raspberry Coulis

- Very personal, very royal treatment from airline staff

Delightfully enough, Low seems to have indulged unashamedly, making use of this sort of over-the top luxury that's obviously unfamiliar to most of us. From eating more than his fill of delicacies, drinking all the wine, coffee and champagne and tapping into the full attention of the airline staff, he made double, triple, quadruple sure that this would indeed be his best flight ever. And good on him for that!

However, in his post, he mentions in passing, that three other people had been booked into Suite Class with him.

We simply can't stop thinking about this. Who are these people who spend R200 000 on air travel without blinking?

It's simply baffling!
