SAA and Virgin Australia join hands to award frequent flyers

Cape Town - Frequent flyers of South African Airlines and Virgin Australia will be pleased to hear that the airlines have joined hands in order for passengers to accumulate more Voyager miles or Velocity Points that will be recognised and redeemable on both airlines.

The new joint awards program will be to the benefit of Virgin Australia's Velocity Frequent Flyers and South African Airways' Voyager members, and will be put into action early next year.

According to the airlines' announcement, "Velocity members will be eligible to earn Velocity Points and Status Credits on all South African Airways operated services, including Airlink and SA Express, while Voyager members will be able to earn Miles on all Virgin Australia operated services, on all domestic, short-haul and long-haul international routes".

Ms Suretha Cruse, executive of SAA's Customer Loyalty, says the venture will reward passengers flying the long distances to and from Australia. She says, “South African Airways is delighted to build upon the strong relationship we have with Virgin Australia. We have had very positive feedback since code-sharing on Virgin Australia’s domestic network and this will only further enhance our customers’ experience".

Neil Thompson, Velocity Frequent Flyer Chief Executive Officer is also excited about the joint attempt by the two countries' airlines. He believes, “Having the ability to earn and redeem Points as well as enjoy a number of premium services like priority check-in, priority boarding and lounge access with South African Airways" is an important benefit for members of Velocity Frequent Flyer travelling to and in South Africa.
