Johannesburg - Low-cost carrier kulula.com recently ran a fun campaign at South Africa's two largest airports to remind travellers how easy it really is to check in online.
They put local rap legend Jack Parow in a remote controlled bath at OR Tambo International and comedian Siv Ngezi in a bed at Cape Town International to illustrate that you can check in online from pretty much anywhere - your home, your office, the beach... wherever!
By punting their online check-in option, kulula hopes that it will ease up queues and airport congestion during the peak travel season coming up over the December holidays.
Shaun Pozyn, Marketing Manager for kulula.com says, “Holiday season should be a fun time but often it’s stressful because there’s so much to do, in such a short time. We can’t manage your in-laws or do your Christmas shopping but we hope that our newly improved online check-in system can save you some time that can rather be spent with your family.”

The online check-in process has been improved and allows customers to do even more online. It’s now possible to check-in infants online; group bookings of up to 15 people can now check-in online and boarding passes can be emailed to one or more email addresses.
When at the airport, the self service kiosks are easy to find and simple to use. It’s just a matter of typing in your name and reference number and printing your boarding pass.
If you get a bit confused, the airport staff are there to help you out. With your boarding pass in hand all that’s left to do is to drop off your bags at the “bag drop " counter.
This process is fast as there is no capturing of details and assigning seats because that’s already done.
“The peak season in Cape Town starts as early as October. For the month of October we saw an increase in passenger numbers of 8% compared to the same period last year. We are optimistic that this trend will continue. The airport typically enjoys a busy holiday period and as always we are working closely with airlines to ensure a hassle-free travel experience for customers. Where possible we encourage travellers to check-in online to help ease the queues at ticket counters and reduce general airport congestion,” says Deidre Davids, Communications Manager for Cape Town International Airport says,
Considering it really is that simple to check-in online from anywhere – give it a try and skip snaking queues.
