Cape Town - The well-known caravan company Jurgens-Ci, located in Ga-Rankuwa, just north of Pretoria, has been closed for over 3 weeks now in what is reported to be an aggressive, unprotected strike.
Netwerk24 reported that the Afrikaans daily Beeld received numerous complaints from worried caravan owners and buyers saying that the Jurgens-Ci company, the biggest supplier of caravans and caravan parts in southern Africa, have not responded to them in over 3 weeks.
Jurgens-Ci provides motor-home parts to 36 dealers in South Africa, and are the makers of renowned caravan brands like Sprite and Jurgens vans.
Some of the distressed caravan owners' motor homes are still in Jurgens-Ci's possession for production before the holiday season, which will be in full flair within the next few weeks. The holidaymakers are worried that they would have to cancel their holidays due to the strike.
Disgruntled owners of caravans have paid hefty deposits of R90 000 and more in order to secure their caravans in time for the holiday season, but may very likely now be disappointed. The caravans' prices range in the region of R900 000, depending on the specifications.
The company appears to have a bad track record of customer and quality service, which is reflected on the dedicated review website, HelloPeter. Infuriated customers have taken to this website since they have received no response from Jurgens-Ci regarding their holiday-mobiles.
Bradley Salters, chief executive of Jurgens-Ci, told Netwerk24 that the company is making arrangements with various other caravan dealers and manufacturers hoping to get bespoke caravans to their owners in time. Salters was unable to give any information regarding the strike.
