Survey shows Brits wishing they were on holiday in Cape Town

Cape Town - In December almost all of Britain is covered in a thick layer of winter snow - a white Christmas fantasy for many Southern Hemispherians.

The British, however, want what we have during our summer months: lazy, sunny beach days sipping cocktails on the shore.

In a recent survey, Cape Town has been voted by the Brits as the second best budget beach break-away destination, reports Daily Mail

An annual Post Office Travel Money survey shows the best affordable beach destination is Bali in Indonesia, while Sri Lanka is the third most affordable beach destination as surveyed by the British.

The affordability of the destinations was determined by how much 10 typical vacation items would cost Brits in the various beach destinations around the world. In Bali the items, which includes a meal for two, insect repellent, a can of Coca-Cola, a chocolate bar, a bottle of local beer, a glass of wine, a cup of coffee, sun screen and a cocktail, would cost around  £40 or R720.

In Cape Town, the cost of the same items would set holiday-goers back around £47 or R850.
