SA airports come out tops in survey

Cape Town - Three South African airports have been named the best in Africa by off-beat travel website, Sleeping in Airports.

OR Tambo International in Johannesburg came out tops, with Cape Town International in second position and Durban's King Shaka at number three.

They are joined on the list of Top five African airports by Algiers Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algeria and Addis Ababa-Bole International Airport in Ethiopia.

Every year Sleeping in Airports gathers information and ratings shared by readers from across the globe and construct a list of the best and worst airports in the world. Their ratings are based on the four Cs - comfort, convenience, cleanliness and customer service.

The best airports list is topped by Changi International Airport in Singapore for the eighteenth year in a row, while Islamabad Benazir Bhutto International Airport was named the worst airport in the world.

Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport, which was previously name worst in the world, improved somewhat, moving into the fourth position.

As far as African airports go, the website states:

"While Africa is rarely renowned for its innovative or comfortable airports, a few gems do exist among a slew of mediocre transit hubs. They may pale in comparison to some of the airport finalists in other regions, but these locations do offer elements of each of the four Cs."
