Cape Town - What happens when you give a bunch of Americans a few of South Africa's most classic snacks to try - you know biltong, Anchovette (that fish paste), Ouma rusks, rock shandy and koeksisters?
Well, lots of wrinkled noses, sassy comments and pronunciation disasters.
Buzzfeed recently compiled a video of three pairs of Americans, trying six different South African snacks and it's absolutely hilarious.
'Oooma condensed milk gegoorde biscuits' (All the lols!) We just don't understand why there weren't given a cup of coffee to dip the rusks in... isn't that what it's all about?
'How much alcohol is in this? Coz I want to get turned!' (hmmm... we never even knew rock shandy was an SA thing!)
'It smells like what they'd feed penguins' (Are we all secretly Anchovette fans, but we'd never admit it?)
'It tastes like sausage your grandpa forgot about' (In many ways, we guess that's what Droewors really is)
'It's like stained-glass meat!' (we'll take that as a compliment for biltong)
'Finally!'
'This is WONDERFUL!'
Enter the koeksisters
We can't help but wonder what they would have thought of these 21 unique eats that you will only find in South Africa - Mopani worms, Afval, skaapkop, walkie talkies...
