Cape Town - A natural amphitheatre of Eucalyptus trees sets the scene for an extraordinary outdoor experience on the centuries-old Paul Cluver farm in Elgin – just 45 mins from Cape Town.
Comfortably seating up to 600 people, the theatre uses state-of-the-art sound and lighting to create an intimate experience for the audience that few outdoor venues can parallel. The entire amphitheatre is a ‘golden circle’ ticket and all the events are selected to match the acoustic potential of the space.
After hosting top international and local performers for over a decade; last year the Cluver family partnered with Thembalitsha, an established and reputable NPO working to restore hope to some of the most disadvantaged and desperate members of our society. The profits of each year’s concert season now go to the organisation.
Last summer’s season succeeded in generating a lot of publicity for Thembalitsha’s cause as well as over R300 000 in much needed funds and this year it includes sponsorships from Appletiser, also attracting interest from Business Arts South Africa too, who short-listed the initiative as a Finalist for the 2014 BASA award.
The programme also boasts comedy from stand-up, Barry Hilton as well as three special festivals:
Hope Music Festival on 29th November 2014 – To mark World Aids Day (1st December), a family-friendly music festival with fun and games for all ages featuring Jesse Clegg, Michael Lowman and aKing. It will also showcase Elgin Valley Wines and cocktails will be on sale by Tipsy Gypsy.
Hidden Years Festival - Remembers Ben Segal on 7th March 2015 - This festival will celebrate the life and music of some of South Africa’s foremost protest singers, folk musicians and singer/songwriters and the two men, David Marks and the late Ben Segal who had the foresight to record their music. Featuring Lesley Rae Dowling, Anton Goosen, Roger Lucey and many more.
Kids Theatre Festival on 28th March 2015 – Roald Dahl’s popular children’s classic Fantastic Mr Fox returns as well as two other plays the hilarious Get Kraken and Memory which will be interspersed with interactive ‘Whose line is it anyway’ style improvisation fun. There will also be other crafty activities to keep little hands amused.
Guests are welcome to bring their own picnics to all events. No own alcohol is allowed but Paul Cluver wines will be on sale as well as craft beers and a small selection of gourmet food vendors.
Says Emily House, Hope@PaulCluver Events Manager for Thembalitsha, "We are ecstatic about how successful our first season was and the benefit it brought to Thembalitsha. We are also thrilled about the artists we have lined up for the summer programme and plan to use last year’s success as a spring-board to attract further interest from both artists, the public and sponsors."
