Cape Town - Two innovative designers, Gaston Blanchet and Jesse Potash, both from New York, have outdone themselves with a new, state of the art suitcase that combines the handy features of a smart-phone with travelling.
The new Trunkster suitcase has no zips, and simply slides open in a roller-motion to enable easy access to belongings. The suitcase is able to charge your mobile phone using a removable battery charger that can charge your mobile devise up to 9 times, and it's also fitted with a built-in scale which weighs your luggage without you having to put it on a scale.
This invention slightly over-shadows another suitcase that weighs while you pack, that was launced for production about 2 months ago.
The most exciting feature about the Trunkster, though, is that is fitted with a GPS tracker, which allows you to locate your luggage from anywhere in the world. This new feature would make for some interesting revelations on where exactly 'lost' luggage ends up.
You can see the designers' pitch for funding here in the video below.
The suitcase was featured on the crowd-funding website, Kickstarter, and has gained more than 4 times the funding they needed in order to go ahead with their invention. The first batch of suitcases, advertised on Kickstarter, has also been sold out completely.
The suitcases are to be made from airplane grade aluminum and pure virgin polycarbonate that is durable, lightweight, and scratch resistant.
Regardless how well the project has done on the crowd-funding site, the 'smart-case' will still cost you a quite a hefty sum of money. A large Trunkster will costs around R6 500, while the smaller version will go for around R5 400.
