Up the Creek – a true traveller’s guide

Cape Town - Up The Creek is certainly one of the most popular festivals in South Africa, mainly because it gives people the opportunity to spend a weekend relaxing on the quiet waters of the Breede River. This year, Up the Creek promises to be an even bigger hit with religious Creekers.

It’s a dream festival for travellers, as one gets to drive along one of the most beautiful roads on your way to one of the most beautiful river settings in the country and simply have a good time.

Whether you’re driving from George, or from Cape Town along the N2 to Swellendam, this is what you need to know to enjoy the weekend to its fullest:

In Swellendam

Swellendam is the 3rd oldest town in South Africa, and if you’re just going to speed past it to Up The Creek, you’ll commit travel blasphemy!

What you need to see

The Rian factory shop and spa
You know those fantastic-smelling beauty shops in the shopping centers called "Rain"? Yes? Well, the Rain factory is in Swellendam. Pop in for low-priced quality goods, as well as an in-house spa. The spa will most-definitely come in handy if you've sun-burnt your back beyond recognition and need some tender love and care.

Moonshadow

An eccentric coffee and gift shop that sells anything from cake and coffee to handmade handbags. They offer beading classes, too.
