On the 8th day of the Oscar Pistorius trial, another South African sporting hero caused a stir when he tweeted about the cricket bat that was used on the night of Reeva Steenkamp’s murder.
Police Col. JG Vermeulen, a forensic analyst who was called to testify on Wednesday, demonstrated where the wooden cricket bat made impact with the bathroom door.
According to Pistorius, the cricket bat was used to bash open the locked bathroom door, after he realised that he had shot his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, having mistaken her for an intruder.
After spotting his signature on the bat in question, Herschelle Gibbs tweeted "Just saw my signature on the bat used by the accused in oscar trail...lol #neveradullmoment"
The twitterverse responded immediately, with many of his fans laughing along at the so called joke.
But, as always, no one is safe on social media. In the few hours since controversial tweet, Gibbs has received much criticism.
