Not wearing heels to Cannes will get you bounced

According to The Independent, the 2015 Cannes Film Festival denied several women access to the world premier screening of the film, Carol for showing up without heels on.

Even though some of these women suffer from medical conditions, it was apparently no excuse.

The dress code for red carpet screening is strictly black tie, and Screen Daily confirmed with Cannes that women are obligated to wear high heels to screenings.

When was it decided that black tie meant women were supposed to wear heels?

I love a pair of heels as much as the next girl, they are formal, fabulous and magically makes your legs look incredible.

But they also pinch, torture the balls of your feet and can betray you into tripping at a moment’s notice.  

I understand that the glamorous vibe to Cannes is a big part of its appeal – it’s fantastic. Ball gowns instead of short dresses, bow ties instead of ties, it all adds a bit of gravitas to the event.

But come on, you honestly cannot expect older women, who struggle in heels, to wear them just to watch a movie! It’s ridiculous.

Most of the time the ball gowns women are wearing are so long, you can’t even see the shoes. Besides, flats can be as classy and formal as heels and does not take away from the black tie dress code at all.

Seriously, Cannes is talking this no flats, no service thing a little too far.
