Cancer charity shows solidarity for Jennifer Lawrence by rejecting reddit's donations

The Prostate Cancer Foundation has rejected donations from reddit, showing that they are unwilling to compromise their morals and integrity for money.

A subreddit named "The Fappenning", dedicated to celebrating and crowing over the criminal theft and mass distribution of celebrity women's private nude images against their will, came up with the idea to somehow get this flaunting of zero fucks given about a woman's right to privacy, dignity and consent to also raise money for cancer.

As you can see from the images below, reddit's major motivations are:

1) Somehow making masturbating over stolen photos against the will of the women being masturbated look like such a good thing, it can even help cure cancer.

2) Encouraging the sharing of these photos.

3) Getting credit.

Things reddit don't seem to care about:

1) The actual will of the women whose photos were stolen.

2) The fact that Jennifer Lawrence herself has expressed distress at her images being stolen and shared.

It's important to note that this "campaign" would have actively encouraged sharing the images, particularly Jennifer Lawrence's images, further.

Considering the fact that Jennifer Lawrence's statements have all made it clear that she's extremely upset by the theft and strongly against sharing her private photos, this all reinforces David Frutelle's suggestion that, for men who hate women, the violation of privacy is part of the thrill.

It is therefore extremely understandable why The Prostate Cancer Foundation has made a clear statement that they would never condone raising funds for cancer research this way.

I already wrote about why viewing and sharing non-consensual images of women is a direct attack on women's right to dignity, and right to say "no" here.

For those of you who still don't get it, or who want to claim it's the women's own fault for not making sure their photos were secure enough, (and there are many of you) you might want to read this Public Service Announcement by Chuck Wendig over here.

Reddit's attempt to glorify their vile gloating over their fapping to stolen images with a donation brings can't help but remind me of two similar donations.

Not long ago, there was David Bullard's attempt to silence those who criticised his active promotion of rape culture with a donation to Rape Crisis, who, justifiably, rejected it.

Then there's 4chan's recent donation to the feminist group The Fine Young Capitalists, motivated mostly by ultimately trying to make themselves "PR untouchable" and feminists seem hypocritical.

Donating money to charity for the purpose of making oneself look good has always been a thing, but there seems to be a whole new trend here: Donating money to charity for the purpose of side-stepping deserved criticism in order to generate praise instead.

Reddit seems to have taken it one step further though. They didn't even try to donate to charities that help the people reddit's behaviour ultimately harms: Women who suffer at the hands who don't believe they really have a right to consent.

Instead, they tried to motivate the further spread of the pictures, against the express will of the women within the pictures, with a campaign that would ultimately benefit a male-only charity.

They couldn't say "we don't give a shit about women" any louder if they tried.

As I suggested with Rape Crisis, help support The Prostate Cancer Foundation's decision by donating to them here. Rejecting money is always an extremely hard decision for a charity organization, and they will need all the help they can get from those who support them for choosing principles over blood money.
