What to do when you're bored at work

40 hours a week is a LOT to spend at work. So it's inevitable that at some point, you'll be hit with a bout of boredom. (Not all the time, I hope, otherwise it might just be a sign to change your job…)

In our chatty, casual office, we survive some days with a copious amount of jokey emails, a little Twitter and cute kiddie YouTube videos. All of these are highly amusing, entertaining time wasters that are guaranteed to make us chuckle (laughter is good for your health, right?). But new research suggests that boredom could be unhealthy for workers. It all depends on what you do once the mind-numbing emotion has set it.

According to this study, 25% of employees who suffer from chronic boredom at work eat chocolate or drink coffee to cope. They are also more likely to drink alcohol.

We asked our Facebook fans what they do when they're bored – and, astonishingly, eating chocolate was absent from the list:

·    Hadjirah: "Facebook, Google, do my nails or I'll get up and walk around."
·    Michal: "Pinterest… although it is a rare occasion."
·    Zukiswa: "Facebook, browse the net. Property24 is my favourite. I pretend I'm a millionaire and look for my dream homes!"
·    Riekie: "No time for boredom at the office. Way too much work, but better than doing nothing I reckon."
·    Tumisang (his answer was, erm, unexpected…): "Harassing ladies with e-mail for nothing!"

There are too many to post here, but you're free head on over and join the chat. Or, if you're not that bored at work, just let us
know what you do when you're bored at work.
