Wallpaper is back! Now with an eco-touch

There is no doubt that when you look at the current evidence, that wallpaper is trending in a big way and interior designers everywhere are eager to get their hands on the latest offerings, which heavily feature retro-inspired designs.

If you have long since been a fan of wallpaper then you might be pleased to move on from emulsion.

Not only will your walls benefit from some stunning designs and colours, but many of them are now also eco-friendly too, so you can enjoy a blast from the past that uses modern manufacturing methods.

Walls with a sense of humour
It is encouraging to see that one of the latest trends in interior design ideas is to find that wallpaper prints are increasingly adopting a more humorous approach that reflects on the personality of the house owner.

With the added benefit of being able to incorporate Photo Wallpaper into your design brief, there are now many individualistic and often humorous ways that you can reflect and project your own personality or sense of style onto your walls.

Archive-print wallpaper
Another design idea that is enjoying a renaissance right now is the use of archive designs that are historic but a long way from being considered old-fashioned.

It would be wrong these days to hold the opinion that you really have to live in an old house in order for these wallpapers to be a success, it is more a case of choosing a design that perfectly suits the scale of your particular home.

To get the most out of archive-design wallpapers you need to adopt a horses-for-courses approach.

A good example of what this means would be to consider how best to use a 1930’s small floral design wallpaper, which can easily become lost in a high-ceilinged whilst conversely, a heavily-patterned Victorian print wallpaper can quickly overwhelm a small or low-ceilinged room.

Flower power
It is probably fair to say that flower designs never really go out of style completely, but tastes and individual preferences are often reflected by seeing what floral-based designs are particularly hot for this year.

Flower power this time around means big and bold designs with a geometric print with a textured pattern or even flocked or glittery will be on trend at the moment.

Flowers are always going to be popular when it comes to wallpaper design and big is beautiful right now when it comes to seeing what is adorning the walls of some of the smartest residences in town.

Minimalism
The retro revival makes more comebacks than a fading pop star but this time around the emphasis is firmly on designs that were all the rage in the 1950’s and 1960’s.

The minimalist designed wallpaper that might be adorning walls in some of the most fashionable residences, features some marginally off kilter geometrics that really works well when the contrasting prints become a fusion of 50’s and 60’s style.

Pick a suitable colour scheme that draws the look in together and invest in some geometric cushions and you won’t need Austin Powers to transport you back to the swinging sixties.

Metallic-finish
If you are looking for a glamorous look that is really on trend then metallic-finish wallpaper would be an excellent choice at the moment.

The versatility of this finish means that you make metallic prints work in the bedroom, living room or dining room.

Large prints and designs which feature a dark background can help to create a truly opulent look and are a smart way of adding extra interest to larger rooms, but should be used more sparingly in smaller rooms.

Wallpapers that are printed on a foil background are probably not the ideal choice for someone on a budget when compared to their less expensive counterparts but they do really make a statement and many people end up feeling that their investment was worth it when they see the end result, especially when that extra reflectiveness helps to lift a room that doesn’t see a lot of natural daylight.

Working the room
To ensure that your efforts in selecting the perfect wallpaper do not go unrewarded, make sure that you select key colours from the design and then try to repeat them in plain fabrics and also with some of the painted woodwork.

The trick for mixing in other prints without outdoing the wallpaper is to stick to a limited colour palette, and remember that many wallpaper choices even though they might be a reflection of a style that is from the past, modern manufacturing methods mean that many of your choices should also be eco-friendly and may feature some recycled materials.

Adding an eco-touch to your design ideas will be just as on trend as the wallpaper design you have chosen.
