Jeep Wrangler ropes top 4x4 award

LONDON, England -Chrysler says its Jeep Wrangler has continued to demonstrate its award-winning credentials after taking 4x4 Magazine’s 4x4 of the Year (Hardcore class) for the third year running.

The award comes as the specialist off-road driving publication’s panel of judges put the rugged US-built off-roader above some extremely capable competitors in its class. Jeep’s new Cherokee also received a ‘Highly Recommended’ accolade in the Top Range SUV category.

Judges praised the Wrangler’s comfort, off-roading ability, iconic deign and classic appeal.

'OFF-ROADING CREDENTIALS'

The magazine's magazines editor, Nigel Fryatt, said: “Put simply, Jeep ought to sell a lot more Wranglers in the UK, it’s that good. While it's become more comfortable and easier to live with it has lost none of its off-road abilities. A rugged classic, comfortable, highly competent off-road and a joy to drive – what’s not to like?”

On Cherokee, Fryatt added: “The new Jeep Cherokee looks great and comes in as our Highly Recommended award in the Top Range SUV class, thanks to its off-roading credentials.”

Jeep UK’s head of brand Damien Dally said: “The Wrangler is the classic 4x4 vehicle that people all over the world instantly recognise. It’s what Jeep stands for and we're delighted to receiive a top award such as the Hardcore 4x4 of the Year, especially for the third time.”

The diesel Wrangler auto claims 8.1 litres/100km (8.3 litres/100km four-door) on the combined cycle and has a CO2 figure of 213g/km (217g/km four-door).

Prices start at the equivalent of R450 990 for the two-door Wrangler 2.8 CRD Sahara, rising to R490 990 for the four-door 2.8 CRD Overland.
