UPDATE: Brno GP - Marc doesn't make it!

BRNO, Czech Republic - Dani Pedrosa ended his Honda team mate Marc Marquez' hope of winning 11 consecutive MotoGP races this season with victory at the 2014 Czech Republic MotoGP on Sunday August 17.

Pedrosa, riding a Repsol Honda, finished the 22 laps around the Brno circuit in 42min47.800. Yamaha duo Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi were second and third and Marquez, who had hoped to become the first premier class rider to win the 11 opening races of a season, was fourth – more than six seconds behind Pedrosa.

Spanish World champion Marquez is, however, still leading the 2014 points table with 263, 77 ahead of Pedrosa and 90 ahead of Rossi.

LORENZO'S SURGE

Marquez started from pole for the ninth time this season but was beaten off the line by Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso – each on a Ducati - before finishing the opening lap sixth. Lorenzo, who started sixth, surged through the field in the early stages to take the lead.

Then, with 17 laps remaining, Spaniard Pedrosa got the better of compatriot Lorenzo and passed the Yamaha rider before speeding to victory.

Marquez fought his way back up to third but failed to keep pace with the two leaders and came under increasing pressure from Rossi – which proved too much with 10 laps left. Rossi went past to keep the 21-year-old off the podium for the first time this season.
