Miami, Florida - Brazil's Luis Derani took victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona, which also saw runner-up racer Max Angelelli hospitalised.
Derani, a 22-year-old from Sao Paulo, took the checkered flag as the overall winner in a Honda-powered Ligier by 26.166 seconds over Angelelli, a 2005 overall winner, in a Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette.
Derani said: "The last two-and-a-half hours were pretty tough, pretty intense. So to not make any mistakes and increase the gap up to the end was amazing."
Angelelli taken to hospital
Angelelli, 49, stopped the car on the track after crossing the finish line and was treated by medical staff and then taken to a local hospital for observation and evaluation.
Race officials said he was conscious and stable and gave no other details of why he required treatment.

5. These two Lamborghinis crashing into each other
11 hours into the race and tragedy struck for two Lamborghini's as Bryce Miller in the No.48 Paul Miller Racing collided with Justin Marks in the No.16 Change Racing car while battling for the lead in the GT Daytona (GTD) class.
According to Motorsport.com , the duo collided just before of Turn 1, sliding across the infield grass and pit lane to impact the inside wall.
