Team Rhide SA is riding for the Save The Rhino campaign, hoping to raise international awareness of the rhino poaching epidemic in South Africa.
Raffle tickets in support of SA two quad competitors in the 2015 Dakar Rally are selling fast and with only days left to the draw, companies, friends and supporters have challenged each other to see who will top the list with the most tickets.
RIDING FOR A GOOD CAUSE
The raffle is part of the team's fund-raising to help Baragwanath and Saaijman in their quest to conquer the Dakar Rally. First prize is a Yamaha Tenéré XT660Z adventure motorcycle worth R98 000, second is an easy-loader Diamond Trailers trailer worth R17 900 and third, a three-night stay for four at Simply Wild Lodges.
This will not only boost Team Rhide SA’s funds but also give ticket-holders an even better chance to win a prize.
By November 28, former quad competitor Danie Senekal and his family business (Limpopo Vervoer) from Musina top the list followed by another quad competitor, André Park and his brother Bobby. Francois van Niekerk is third and Gary Whitehouse, well-known in the SA off-road motorcycle industry as the owner of Dirtbike Fanatics, fourth.
Paul van Niekerk of PC Transport in Ermelo is fifth equal with McGee Yamaha after he purchased his tickets at the Gauteng Off-road Club’s year-end function where Baragwanath walked away with yet another overall victory in the quad category.
Des and Lynne Wentzel, from Wenbro Hire, in Polokwane supported their ‘local’ rider (Baragwanath is from Polokwane) and are sixth on the list.
The draw will take place on December 6 2014 at the Roof of Africa prize-giving in Lesotho. Saaijman, who has competed in various enduro motorcycle events in 2014, will also compete in the upcoming Roof of Africa from Dec 4-6 in Lesotho.
TAKING ON THE AMAGEZA RALLY
Both Baragwanath and Saaijman competed in the Amageza Rally over the five-day multi-stage race in the Northern and Western Cape. Earlier in 2014 the pari also completed the Namaqua African Rally in the Western Cape with Baragwanath finishing third overall and winning the quad category.
Saaijman also finished the event despite engine problems.
