9G-Tronic gearbox for Merc E-Class

MUNICH, Germany - Mercedes-Benz has added a number of changes to the new E-Class range, the most significant being a new 9G-Tronic gearbox which will arrive in South Africa in 2015.

There will also be new standard equipment, more power and lower emissions, Merc says.

The in-house developed 9G-Tronic gearbox will be used in the E350 BlueTEC sedan, estate, coupe and cabriolet versions.

LESS CARBON EMITTED

Mercedes said: “The pairing brings a significant reduction of up to 17g/km of CO2 emissions which now start from 136 for the coupe, 139 for the sedan, 142 for the estate and 143 for the cabrio.  Power has risen to 198kW (about five kW extra).

A warning/avoidance system will also be fitted to every E-Class to reduce the effect of a collision. The system provides visual and acoustic warnings, says Merc, when a frontal collision is imminent. The adaptive brake-boost and activation of Pre-Safe take place when the driver applies the brakes; if the driver does no respond then auto-braking will be activated at up to 100km/h to reduce the severity of the the probably impact.

The system can also brake from up to 50km/h to avoid a stationary vehicle
