BMW reveals new M6 GT3 at Frankfurt

Frankfurt, Germany - BMW has set a course for the future in GT racing with the reveal of its new BMW M6 GT3 at the 2015 Frankfurt auto show.

The new GT3, the racing variant of the BMW M6, will be by used privateer teams in 2016.

The GT3 weighs less than 1300kg and the transaxle drive concept uses a sequential six-speed racing ' box and has body aerodynamics honed in a wind tunnel.

Its costs the equivalent of R5.7-million.

The motorsport division is using its experience from the BMW Z4 GT3, into the development of the new car. BMW says the new GT3 racer moves the goalposts with better drivability and economy than the Z4 GT3.

Twinpower turbo

M TwinPower Turbo technology is used to develop higher output and an increase in torque. The GT3 uses centrally-positioned driver’s seat.

The BMW M6 GT3 has undergone an extensive programme of testing on a variety of circuits over the course of 2015. This new poster car for customer racing is now undergoing a final round of fine-tuning prior to its race debut in 2016.
