PARIS, France - Porsche will launch a Cayenne S E-Hybrid at the 2014 Paris auto show on October 2. Together with its Panamera S E-Hybrid and the 918 Spyder, Porsche claims to be the only automaker "to offer three plug-in models".

According to Porsche: “The world’s first plug-in hybrid in the premium SUV segment sets the standard among luxury all-wheel-drive vehicles and makes Porsche a market leader in the production of plug-in hybrid cars.”

HYBRID POWER

The all-wheel-drive hybrid is powered by a six-cylinder, three-litre, V6, borrowed from the Panamera S E-Hybrid, combined with a 10.8kWh lithium-ion battery for a total output of 306kW/590Nm driving through an eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission.

Fuel consumption is a claimed 3.4 litres/100km with CO2 emissions of 79g/km. Its hybrid unit enables it to sprint to 100km/h in 5.9sec and reach 243km/h.

SPRUCED CAYENNES

The plug-in hybrid will make its debut alongside updated versions of the Cayenne S, Cayenne Turbo, Cayenne Diesel and Cayenne S Diesel in Paris. The updated SUV's claim lower fuel consumption, "more precise handling", design tweaks and new equipment.

According to Porsche: “Global market reaction to models with the advanced hybrid drive concept has been positive. In the first eight months of 2014 the company delivered 16 698 Panamera units, of which 1513 (nine percent) were Panamera S E-Hybrid models.”
