The 1290 builds on the current 1190 Adventure range and will be positioned alongside the KTM Street range in 2015.
According to the bikemaker: "The high-end machine will add a dimension and choice for those who want the absolute pinnacle of luxury sport touring riding."
STABILITY CONTROL
The Super Adventure has larger engine capacity and as a result offers more power and torque.
As with the 1190, the 1290 has stability control, developed in partnership with Bosch. The new models' anti-lock braking and traction control are, its maker claims, "at the forefront of motorcycle safety and have a range of selectable presets so as to not remove any riding enjoyment".
More details will be announced when the 1290 Super Adventure is officially launched at 2014 Intermot show in Cologne, Germany, on September 30.
SA BIKE OF THE YEAR
KTM’s 1290 Super Duke took the honours on August 8 in the 2014 SA Bike of the Year awards during the opening of the 2014 Amid motorcycle show at Nasrec in Johannesburg.
As was the case in 2013, the competition was once again very close, with the BMW S1000R actually being more judges’ first choice but the KTM winning on overall score.
