Although the 3-litre turbo diesel engine produces a respectable 115kW of power at 3 200r/min and 380Nm of torque at 1 800r/min, all with class leading refinement, SAC believes there is latent performance potential to be unleashed.
For R6 900 SAC will not tamper with engine internals or cut any wires.
Instead the plug and play conversion will simply interface with your vehicle's ECU (Electronic Control Unit) to optimise the air-fuel mixture, timing, boost and injector pressures. Your Ford or Mazda bakkie will now produce 128kW of power and 422Nm of torque after this.
In terms of performance comparisons the 168 km/h top speed is purely academic and constrained more by aerodynamics than anything else.
Revised sprint times are 11 seconds for the 0-100 km/h dash, the 1 km sprint is quicker too and the overtaking is strong with the 60-100 km/h dash in 4th now only taking 7.45 seconds and the 80-120 km/h segment in 5th 10.83 seconds.
SAC does not alter the manufacturer safety parameters during the plug and play calibration. Despite this, the abysmal quality of South African diesel fuel - especially in rural areas - should be taken into consideration as a decision factor when attempting to optimise turbo diesel performance.
