N12 mist horror: Two killed in 65-car pile-up

JOHANNESBURG, Gauteng - Two people were killed and at least 15 injured in collisions along the N12 and the N4 highway near Ogies and Witbank in Mpumalanga due to misty conditions on Monday (June 29 2015), paramedics said.

Roughly 60 vehicles including cars, minibus taxis and several trucks were involved in different collisions, said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

MULTIPLE COLLISIONS

Mering said: "It is believed heavy mist in the area contributed to the cause of the collisions. Those hurt sustained injuries to their lower legs, pelvic areas and some to their heads."

Earlier in October 2014, two people were also killed and more than 50 hurt when a petrol tanker crashed into rush-hour traffic on the N12 East near Alberton, south-east of central Johannesburg.
