BUDAPEST, Hungary - Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo triumphed from a crash-filled 2014 Hungarian GP. The Red Bull driver took his second win of the 2014 season with a brilliant race that saw several drivers retiring.

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso was second, his second podium of the 2014 season. The Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg finished third and fourth respectively with Hamilton driving through from a pits-lane start to come very close to winnng.

Had he, it would have been the first such achievement in the history of F1.

CRASHES AT THE HUNGARORING

The rain-soaked Hungaroring circuit saw many crashes, among them Lotus' Romain Grosjean and the Force Force India duo of Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg. The pace car was deployed twice during the 70-lap race.

LAPS 1 - 10

Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat suffered mechanical failure at the start of the race and was pushed into the pits lane.

Hamilton had a poor start, running off track during the first lap after starting from the pits lane. He complained of brake issues throughout the race but moved up from 19th to 16th by lap five.

Rosberg continued to dominate throughout though by Lap 10 he was under pressure from Valtteri Bottas. The wet Hungaroring circuit claimed its first victim when Caterham's Marcus Ericsson had a serious crash at Turn 4 on Lap 1, prompting the pace car.

LAPS 10 -20

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo led the pack after Ericsson's crash as the pace car led drivers around the Hungaroring; the slowed pace didn't, however, prevent Lotus' Romain Grosjean crashing on Turn 3 on lap 13.

The race re-started after his car was removed from the track with Ricciardo in the lead on Lap 14, ahead of McLaren's Jenson Button and Williams' Felipe Massa, second and third respectively.

FORCE INDIA BLUNDER

On Lap 16 Button entered the pits which allowed Massa to take second behind Ricciardo. Lap 17 saw Force India's Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez collide, ending Hulkenberg's race.

Marusia's Jules Bianchi and Lotus' Pastor Maldonado tussled on Lap 18 forcing both to pit. Maldonado crashed into Bianchi as he tried to pass the Marussia driver.

PEREZ CRASHES

Perez suffered a huge crashed on Lap 23. He lost control of his car, went wide through Turn 14, and smashed into the inside wall. The pace car was deployed for a third time.

Perez was able to climb out of his car though debris from his already damaged Force India was strewn across the track. He and team mate Hulkenberg's crashes marked the first double retirement for Force India in 2014.

On Lap 27 the race resumed with the pack reshuffled once again with Alonso leading, followed by Toro Rosso's Jean-Eric Vergne and Rosberg, in second and third respectively. Perez's crash allowed Hamilton to move up pressure Vettel for fourth.

By Lap 35 the threat of rain had dissipated, prompting many drivers to switch to medium tyres.

Despite warnings of possible brake issues, Hamilton continued to pursue Alonso. Ricciardo held on to third, followed by Massa and Raikkonen, fourth and fifth respectively.

LAPS 50-60

Ricciardo led the race on Lap 50 despite a dogged challenge by Alonso. Ricciardo was told to continue to push ahead despite struggling with his rear tyres.
