Three dead in two N12 crashes

JOHANNESBURG, Gauteng - Three people were killed and two critically injured early this morning (Nov 27 2014) when a vehicle rolled multiple times on the N12 near the R59 in Alberton, east of here.

Paramedics arrived on the scene at about midnight to find a badly-damaged vehicle in the overtaking lane. In it were the bodies of two women and a man; two other passengers were listed as “critical”.

HEAD-ON CRASH

Hydraulic shears were used to extract the dead and injured, the latter taken under advanced life-support to Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto.

In another incident, this one on Nov 26, two drivers were injured, one of them now in “critical” condition, in a head-on crash at an intersection on the N12 near Delmas in Mpumalanga. He had apparently been ejected from his car.

Paramedics treated both before they were taken to Glynwood Hospital in Benoni, the seriously injured driver by helicopter.

The cause for the crash is being investigated.
