Divergent by Veronica Roth (HarperCollins Children's Books)
Divergent is a dystopian novel set in an after apocalyptic/war regime, with Beatrice Prior, or Tris, as the main character.
There are 5 factions in this regime. Dauntless - the brave, Amity - the peaceful, Abnegation - the selfless, Candor - the honest and Erudite - the intelligent.
Beatrice was born into Abnegation, but she's never truly felt selfless. At the age of 16 every child must choose whether they want to stay in the faction they were born in to or if their personality says they're meant for another faction.
However Beatrice fits into more than one faction, hence the title Divergent. She chooses a faction and becomes Tris. And in the events of the book she uncovers a plot made to bring down the society they all live in.
I really enjoyed this book because Tris isn't another damsel in distress.
She stands up for what she believes in and she fights for herself. Then there's the enigmatic Four. The male counterpart to Tris. You can't help but love and hate him all at the same time.
I'll say no more about this wonderfully intriguing book for fear of spoilers. For me Divergent gets a 4 out of 5.
