3 annoying wedding trends that need to stop

accreditation

I should probably start off by saying that I really love weddings. I adore seeing the creative process, the quirky ideas and how the general planning unfolds.  I am even a fan of all the pretty Pinterest-inspired (in moderation of course) craftiness that takes shape and adds that extra little pizzazz to any wedding.

But, having said that, I’ve also noticed a few bizarre, unnecessary trends that have become either clichéd or have just come straight out of left-field, only to catch on and become a thing. Even though it shouldn’t.

I could talk about how boring mason jars have become, or waffle on about those irritating and overly done fortune-cookie favours, but the truth is that there are trends that are far more annoying and ones that need to be stopped right now.

These are the ones we think need to go.

Pet weddings

Or pets who act as ring bearers at weddings. I kid you not. I can’t tell you how many videos and posts I’ve seen where pet owners are either filming their pets getting married or insisting that their pets play a role in the wedding (one that won’t necessarily go according to plan).

What’s worse is that the animals are actually dressed up in little wedding dresses and tuxedos. Now I am a huge animal lover myself, but for me, this is taking things one step too far.

Don’t believe me?

Here's an example of a few for your viewing pleasure (or not):

Cake toppers depicting reluctant grooms

In my quest for finding out which wedding trends annoy most of the Internet, I stumbled upon quite a number of forums chatting about cake toppers.

Not just any cake toppers. But those ones that depict grooms being dragged to the altar, or being handcuffed and chained to the bride.

I get that some people have a rather warped sense of humour, but I’m not sure I’d want to start the first day of my marriage with little toppers that scream “I forced my now-husband into this marriage” at my wedding celebration.

The jumping in the air pose

What is it about this pose that makes this a photograph opportunity that almost everyone keeps gunning for? I need someone to explain this to me (beyond the obvious “jumping for joy”explanation please), because the only thing I think when I see photo shoots featuring this, is a lame attempt at miming R Kelly’s “I believe I can fly.”
