5 Wedding rules you don’t have to follow

accreditation

When it comes to weddings, somehow there’s always been this unspoken rule that stated that every bride should mimic what another bride does and that weddings should stick to the culturally accepted norms.

While we know that there are many brides-to-be who are traditional at heart (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that), we’re happy to see that more and more brides are taking a more modern approach, throwing out the old, and hopping on board with the new.

For those thinking of doing something completely different, here’s a list of traditions you can easily skip:

1. You don’t have to wear white to your wedding.

More and more brides are opting to wear gowns that aren’t white.  Bold colours such as red, pink and even lime green have become more acceptable, and these days, some of the most elegant weddings you find are those who reverse the black-and-white combo.

Did you get married in a gown of a different colour in 2013 or 2014? Why not send us a pic or share your bridal story with us?

2. Having a band perform live at your wedding.

Unless you’ve specifically budgeted for this, having a live band at your wedding isn’t strictly necessary.

With the advent of iPods, mp3 players and other forms of media that can play music, it’s so much easier and cheaper to just create a playlist and just have a relative or close friend man the station.

3. It’s not necessary to toss your bouquet.

While this little tradition is certainly fun, if you love your bouquet of flowers, you shouldn’t have to feel obligated to toss your flowers.

In fact, many singles will be grateful to you for sparing them from the awkward shuffle leading them to the middle of the reception hall.

4.  Three-tiered layered cakes are also not a must.

Wedding cupcakes are all the rage these days.  It’s much cheaper and saves you from having to divide the cake into even rations for your guests.

5.   You don’t have to get married in church.

More and more modern weddings are moving away from having their nuptials taking place in church. Garden weddings and ceremonies taking place on wine farms are just a few of the options there are to choose from.

Often, combining the place where your ceremony takes place with the reception venue, is more convenient for both you and the guests.
