5 tips to help you nail your wedding speech

accreditation

Here at Women24, we often get questions from readers regarding wedding speeches. From queries on what should be said to enquiries about how it should be said, it’s clear that causes anxiety for couples taking the plunge.

Fear not! We’ve got a few handy tips for you to keep in mind when you’re prepping your wedding speech.

1. Acknowledge your parents and new in-laws
It’s probably the most obvious point in our list, but next to your partner, the people you’ll probably see throughout most of your life, are your folks and the parents of your new spouse.

Acknowledging and thanking them for the role they’ve played in your lives and in assisting and supporting you with the wedding is one of the best ways you can cement your (hopefully) already strong relationship with your new in-laws.

2. Shower your bride/groom with love
Let it be known that guests love it when you make a big deal about your bride/groom. It’s your big day, so be all about the bragging, love and gushing. No one will accuse you of being insufferable.

3. Thank your guests for attending

Remember that the people you invited made special effort to not only get to your wedding, but also took the time from their otherwise busy lives in which to do so. Simply thanking them for sharing in your big day is a great way to make them feel even more a part of the day than they already are.

4.  Don’t go off on a tangent

Don’t just wing it. Prepare your speech beforehand. That way you’ll feel more prepared because you know what you’re going to say. As such, you’ll be able to gauge beforehand just how much time you’ll need in order to say what you want to say.

Remember, it may be your big day, but no one likes a speech that goes on and on and on.

5. Thank all the vendors

Finally, and it really should go without saying, don’t forget to recognize and acknowledge the roles that all the vendors (photographers, caterers, videographers, etc) have played in your wedding. They’re there to help ensure that your day runs smoothly.

And yes, you are paying them for services being rendered, but a word of gratitude will go a long way in making them feel appreciated and part of the reason why your wedding day goes off without a hitch.
