This guy faked his death to escape his wedding

When making a lifelong commitment like marriage, it’s perfectly natural to get cold feet.  One would assume, however, that most couples would be able to get through this by sitting down and talking about it like reasonable adults would.

However, this groom-to-be decided on a very different route. He actually faked his death to get out of getting married.

Not only that, but he pretended to be his father and acted as if his death was a suicide!

According to The Huffington Post, Tucker Blandford and Alex Lancaster were supposed to tie the knot on the 15th August.  The couple, who first met in 2012 while Alex (who is British) was studying abroad.

The two quickly fell in love and while spending her time in the US Tucker, after an extended courtship quickly proposed to Alex.

The Huffington Post goes on to add that the couple, who never let distance put them off for the most part, talked every day.

With the day looming closer, Alex had by then spent money on the invites, the dress and according to The Daily Mail even paid for his flights in the hopes that they could enjoy a holiday together while planning for their big day.

Blandford even told her that he’d booked the venue.

However, a week before the wedding Alex received a phone call from a man who claimed to be Tucker’s father. In the call, it was claimed that Blandford was suffering from depression and had thrown himself in front of a car because he wanted to die.

But, in a weird turn of events,  Alex who decided to call his mom to express her condolences, only to learn that she had no idea what Lancaster was talking about and that as far as she was concerned, Tucker was alive and well.

It was only then that she made a connection as to why the voice on the phone sounded so familiar – it was Blandford who was pretending to be his father.

Alex was devastated.  She says when she called him a few days later, he refused to answer her calls but later confessed (via text nogals) that he made up the whole thing.

What an awful, awful thing to do.

We can’t believe that someone can resort to do something this cruel to someone he was supposedly in love with. He himself admits that he is a terrible person, but tries to justify it by stating that he was scared.

I’d like to think that most people would just be upfront about this kind of thing, but this? There are no words for this level of hurtfulness inflicted upon a woman who genuinely seemed to love him.

Although, it’s probably just as well that this happened. He certainly saved her from making the worst mistake of her life.
