We talk to salon owner Belinda Kingsley to find out the highlights and lowlights of being a beauty and massage therapist.

Job Description:It involves administering the treatment required in a professional, competent way. It is also vital to have strong communication and people skills. It's important to be able to be perceptive to a client's needs.
Qualifications needed: Beauty Therapist or Somatology Diploma from a recognised institution.
1. How did you get into your line of work? I have always enjoyed working with people and was fascinated with the art of massage.
2. What's the first thing you do when you get into the office? Switch on the wax and address the bookings.
3. To do my job, you have to love… Working with people, and what you do. Massage is my passion.
4. I spend most of my day… Working with people on a one to one basis. I love it.
5. What is the worst aspect of your job? Being self employed has its disadvantages. Although I have built up a strong client base there are still busier and quieter times. I like to keep things new and interesting.
6. What is the best thing about your job? I get to meet new people every day and get to know people that have been coming to me for years. I'ts a great feeling to see people feel good about themselves, and to make a difference, especially on the massage side. There is a high level of job satisfaction.
7. The next job up from yours is… I run my own business, so the next step would be to expand. I am happy how things are as the personal approach to the business is very important to me.
8. What's the one thing no-one knows about your job? It can be very tiring. We don't sit and paint nails all day! It involves skill, and psychology skills at times and can be exhausting after a full long busy day.
