To break in, can be rather difficult - especially as there are just so many talented and creative individuals who are looking for the same break.
Here, we chat to M.A.C. Cosmetics' senior makeup artist, Michelle Lee Collins about how she got here break:
What is your job title?
Senior Artist for M.A.C. Cosmetics, South Africa.
How did you end up working in your current position?
I started at the M.A.C. Counter ten years ago with my sight clearly set on becoming their senior artist. Driven by a passion for makeup and the brand, I quickly moved up the store ranks and into my dream job.
What is your day to day like?
No two days are the same in my world. My job is multi-faceted, allowing me the opportunities to on one day be shooting editorials with incredible fashion designers and world class photographers, and the next I am in the stores working with my events team playing with makeup and hopefully inspiring the artists in store artists.
What are your biggest work challenges?
Trying to be all over the continent at the same time. There are so many days when I wish I could clone myself so I could be working with the artists all across Africa, igniting even more energy around makeup and the brand.
What is the best part about your job?
Working with my thirty M.A.C. Events Team artists on shoots and fashion weeks, honing their skills and watching them grow into incredible makeup power houses within the brand and the industry.
