Student caught trying to run a sex scam through Gumtree

A UCT student may be facing disciplinary action after placing Gumtree adverts for "undraped models" to try lure unsuspecting women into sending topless or nude photos.

The scammer would add the women who responded to the ad on Whatsap, where he would try convince them to send him pictures, and attempt to engage them in conversations of an inappropriate sexual nature.

A victim of the scam, who wishes to remain anonymous, was able to find out the identity of the scammer by Googling his cellphone number.

The model has reported the ads to Gumtree, who removed them and banned the user, and she has since filed a complaint with UCT, who are investigating the matter.
