This time of year is usually jam-packed with a variety of activities from drinks with the girls after work to going from a casual braai and then to cocktails at your favourite bar.
How do you dress appropriately for all of these occasions in one go? Here are five tools and tips that will ensure that your look can go from day to night in an instant.
A dress you can dress up and down
A dress is my go-to item when I need to go from day to night without having to get changed in between. Select a dress that fits well and doesn't crease so that it doesn't look tired by the end of the day.
If you are on your feet a lot of the day, you can wear comfortable shoes during the day and simply change into those sexy heels when it’s time to shift gears. Take your makeup essentials with you to touch up and you are good to go.
Add a bit of glamour
Metallic items are great glamour basics. A pair of gold flat sandals, a pair of silver killer heels, a bold metallic necklace or chandelier earrings will dress up most outfits.
Depending on how much you want to dress up your look will depend on how many metallic pieces you will want to wear at a time.
While you don’t want to go over the top, you also don’t need to be afraid of metallic. Metallic shades go with all colours and can even be mixed. Wearing gold and silver is no longer a no-no.
A touch of shimmer makeup
If you are nervous about wearing shimmer for fear of it making you looking older, then don’t worry. There is a big difference between a touch of shimmer and a lot of shine. Shimmer is subtle and can be added in small quantities without losing the effect.
Wear a bold red lip or keep your lips neutral and add shimmer to your eyes. Either way, it will add that touch of glamour to anything you wear.
Dress-up required
If you are going to a cocktail evening or a really special occasion, you may need to step up the glamour.
When shopping for an outfit, select something that you can easily dress up for a more formal look and tone down for semi-formal function.
You may not wear this outfit for everyday, but it is great to have an easy dress-up outfit on hand for occasions like these. If there is no time to go home beforehand, you will need to do some serious preparation.
Make sure you have everything you need. Practice an easy hairstyle change that won’t require a lot of work or book a hair appointment for the end of the day for professional styling.
Put some extra effort into your makeup application and don’t forget the bling accessories to finish off your look.
