Emmy's 2014: beauty looks we think you should try

Last night's red carpet brought us a lot of joy. Why?

Not only did we see lots of colour (from silver to coral and red), but we were also treated to some rather stunning beauty looks we'd love to try for our next event/night on the town.

The trick is to pair your make-up and hair with your outfit. It has to work for you and not against you. Luckily, most celebrities nailed this, showing up in laid-back, yet chic beauty looks that paired perfectly with their designer outfit.

We've rounded up our 4 favourite hair and make-up trends. And we think you should give them all a go!

Messy up-dos

Claire Danes (above left) showed up with a really original 'do. Her stylist made a fishtail braid, pinning it up into a chignon - giving her a relaxed, yet chic up-do.

Some people had an issue with January Jones's slightly dishevelled hair (above right), saying it looked uncombed and greasy. We disagree. We loved this unique take on the traditional, super-neat red carpet up-do.

Bold lashes

Gwen Stefani was very clever here as she went for straight hair, pairing it with minimalist make-up and very bold lashes.

She left her face relatively make-up free, which really made her eyes pop against the silver of her Versace gown.

Smoky eyes

Lizzy Caplan and Kerry Washington both smoldered on the red carpet with their smoky slate grey eye look. We loved how Kerry paired this look with undone hair - giving that cool, relaxed feel.

Caplan went for the glam Hollywood-style bun, which suited her look perfectly.

Red lips

Both January Jones and the lovely Claire Danes wowed in stunning red gowns - pairing it with a red lip.

Now, red on red can be tricky, but they pulled it off brilliantly.

Red seems to be the colour of the season - both in fashion and beauty.
