Have you been removing your makeup wrong?

So, many of us see the process of washing and moisturising our face every morning and night as mere, routine. This is a big, big mistake. It's not like brushing your teeth, as this should be done like a queen. If you are not removing your makeup before going to bed or not removing it properly, then you are doing it wrong!

We are not suggesting that you start to take milk and honey baths like Queen Cleopatra (those can get real expensive, yo) or that you take out a loan or insurance on your face (unless, perhaps, you are a supermodel). But Cleopatra (who was known for her incredible hair and beautiful skin) took care of her face like crazy. Um, her antiseptic nourishing mask, according to Beauty and Tips, consisted of:

– 1 egg yolk
– 1 table spoon of almond oil
– 1 tea spoon of honey

She also apparently swore by a refreshing white clay face mask, which she applied regularly.

If you wear makeup and especially if you wear lots of the stuff, you need to use a proper makeup remover and face wash. No ifs, ands or buts.

In a recent article "Have you been washing your face wrong all these years?," we reported that NYC facialist, Isabelle Bellis placed emphasis on the "love your skin" part of caring for your face. Show your skin love, and it might just glow in return. Or as Donna from Parks & Recreation would say...

Of course, treating yo' self can be pricey. Luckily, there are many budget as well as splurge items to choose from. So there's absolutely no excuse.

At the moment I am in love with oil-based products, like Lipidol's Face Wash Oil. It's a refreshing herbal face wash oil that you apply to a dry face, then add a bit of water and massage the skin. The product will start to emulsify and will form a watery cream. So delicate and lovely. At R80 this product is a fantastic buy!

To remove make-up properly:

Mid-way: Hannon's new range of product are really fantastic. I use the Hannon Makeup Cleansing Milk and its gentle formulation is super effective for removing makeup quickly and without hurting or burning the eyes, R235. 

Splurge:
