I recently took two clients on a shopping
trip to find their perfect pair of jeans. There is this incorrect assumption that all jean styles are hipster and
skinny.
Well, that used to be the case,
but the denim suppliers have finally wised up the fact that we women have
various shapes, sizes and don’t all suit one style.
Now, you can find an array of colours,
styles and fits. But could one still be unsure which styles to try?
I have to admit that finding the perfect pair does take time.
For both of my clients, it was about trying
on a few different pairs in brands, styles and sizes they normally would never
try. But alas, we were successful.
To help you to have the same success, here
are a few tips. Each woman is different
according to body shape and personal style, so these are just a few guidelines,
not rules.
If your hips, bums and
thighs are your widest point
In this case bootleg is
often your best option. The bootleg
gives balance to your hips and thighs. There are a few variations of bootleg from a slight bootleg to wide
flair.
Try on a few to see which works best for you. If you also have a tummy, look out for
slightly higher cut styles that will give you extra support, but make sure they
fit really well.
A waistband that is too big is just going
to give you extra bulk where you don’t want it. If you really want to wear the skinny look,
cheat and wear slim leg instead.
It
looks similar to skinny, but the slightly wider hemline gives more balance to
your curvaceous figure. Avoid fading and
detail across your hips and thighs as it just draws the eye there. Dark simple denim will work best.
If your tummy is your widest
point and you have slim legs
In order to de-emphasise your tummy and show
off your gorgeous legs, a slight bootleg or slim leg will work well for
you.
If you have just a little bit of a
tummy, wear your waistband about 2cm below your belly button to give support
where you need it.
If you have
a generous tummy, a little higher will work best. You want to give your tummy a bit of support,
making it easier to wear fitted tops.
Avoid jeans with bulgy pockets or detail close to your tummy. Simple dark denim or fading down the leg will
elongate your look.
If you have short legs
Slim leg styles work better than skinnies
as they cover part of your shoe. This
shows off more leg than shoe, making your legs appear longer than they
are.
If you love your skinnies, just
wear them with heels and or opt for a slightly higher rise than hipster and
tuck your top in to make your legs look longer.
Fading going down the leg can also create an elongated look.
If
you are tall and slim
You will look great in
skinnies, slim leg and flairs. Avoid
wearing baggy tops over your jeans as fitted tops will work better to show off
your shape. Baggy doesn’t suit anyone.
