Kim Kardashian will be featuring in a shoot for the Italian edition. Should we be concerned?
This morning, I read Kim's bio on IMDB.com. To say it's unflattering would be an understatement:
"Kim Kardashian is emblematic of the shallowness of American culture in the first two decades of the new millennium… Kardashian is possessed of photogenic good looks but is short of any other discernible talents outside of the bedroom."
Harsh, isn't it? Now this "cultural emblem" will be featuring in a
Vogue Italia spread. How did this happen?
I figure
Vogue Italia has never been a magazine to shy away from controversy:
• There was the curvy models cover (Yay!);
• There was a spread featuring models eating (okay, posing with) junk food;
• Then we were claims that the mag is racist;
• And the whole hoo-ha about crowning a new model "The Body" (Elle MacPherson probably didn't like that much);
• And its editor believed that "Facebook causes anorexia".
But where do you go once you've pushed the envelope to this point? Tackle the celebrity machine, of course.
Vogue Italia is, in my opinion, by far the edgiest international edition of the magazine. So maybe it’s the right fit for Kim after all.
But enough of my philosophising…
