Anger over alleged Edgars 'mark-up' sale prices

accreditation
An infuriated Johannesburg man recently took to Facebook to publicly expose a "corporate ploy" of a local Edgars in Johannesburg. Rithen posted his disgust with the major retail store in the open group 'Jozi Restaurants: the good, the bad and the ugly.'

While browsing for sale items at Edgars, Rithen RrK noticed that one of the price tags wasn't completely attached to the label. He thought nothing of it until a friend drew his attention to yet another poorly attached price tag.

Rithen began examining the price tags on the 50%-off racks and noticed that all the clothing items had double price tags on the label. After pulling back about 10 price tags from different sections of the sale, he realised that each sale item was priced R100 -R200 more than the original tagged price.

"(L)ike below where the item was originally R499.95 then increased to R599.95!" Rithen stated indignantly.

He angrily exclaimed that (I'm) "not pleased with this as I have been an Edgars shopper for most of my life!"

What does Edgars have to say?

Women24 asked Edgars to respond to the above allegations in an attempt to find out why sales items were marked up instead of down. Edgars Marketing Executive, Belinda Godfrey, made the following statement:

"With the recent start of Edgars’ new fiscal year, we as a retailer have gone through selected price increases due to rising inflation and costs. Soon after this increase we entered into our end of season sale, therefore the seeming increase followed by a mark-down is purely coincidental.   We understand that this has caused some confusion and for this reason we will review our process of communicating prices in the future"

Does this not pose more questions than answers?
